Writing & Photography Track Record
I have written many different things, including fiction, in 20 years of writing: I have written more than 2 million words, and I have had more than 1000 articles published in more than 100 publications around the world. Over the past ten years, I branched almost completely into travel writing in its widest sense and its many forms. This ranges from geographic writing to service pieces, from travel-news features to first-person adventures and memoirs. I have also solely authored four guidebooks, and contributed sections to a dozen others. Travel subjects also form the bulk of my photo collections. My pictures are mainly used to illustrate my own writing - more often than not I produce complete packages of words and pictures to magazines and guidebooks - as well as used independently of my writing in dozens of mediums and publications around the world. Among the latter, pictures used independently of my writing, are large and visible vehicles: these include a picture used in a promotional campaign by Canon in Europe, another picture used as a poster campaign by the tourist board in Malta, a couple of magazine covers, and the entire collection of pictures (about 240 pictures) used in an illustrated guidebook to London. The pictures that are reproduced in this website are just a fraction of my entire photo collection.
Content Expertise & Assignments
I am happy to consider assignments in writing and photography, especially if it’s something within the orbit of my geographic stomping ground and subjects that I already know well. Subject-wise, I am particularly fluent in environmental matters - I studied ecology at university, and I have been active in environmental protection in various capacities all my adult life: I have an authoritative understanding of environmental issues as well as a scientific understanding of nature and wildlife.
In terms of travel and geographic coverage, there are some regions I know distinctly well. I have lived in six countries - in Malta, Germany, England, Australia, Thailand, and China - and this has allowed me to explore different regions in the world and get acquainted with regional cultures, histories, tourist attractions, landscapes, wildlife, food, and ways of life.
Let me retract a bit: my writing and photography has taken me to dozens of countries, and I continue to travel widely. But in terms of eminent expertise I know the following countries or regions exceptionally well:
- Malta. I’m originally Maltese, and grew up in Malta. I have researched travel in Malta better than anyone else in the travel publishing industry past and present. You can see more about my Malta expertise in Malta Content page;
- Thailand. I lived in Thailand for four years, and in that time I researched and wrote about most of the country’s territory; now I continue to visit Thailand regularly;
- China. I am currently based in western China, where I have been involved in the travel industry for 3 years;
- Libya. I have visited and explored the country a few times, and it’s a place I feel passionate about - an ability to communicate in Arabic also allows me to get the inside scoop and travel easily in Libya;
- Laos. I have covered virtually the entire Lao territory over several visits, and continue to visit the country regularly to research emerging attractions and tourism-development stories;
- East and South Asia. Aside from the three Asian countries mentioned above - which deserve special mention - I also know other countries, regions, and territories in east and south Asia better than most people. I have lived continuously in Asia for 10 years, and in that time I have travelled to many corners of Asia on assignment; I have also developed a network of friends and contacts, and amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge about the region.
Buy Articles or Pictures
Virtually all of the articles that appear in this website have been previously published. Some are outdated, some aren’t. Most have only appeared in one country or region, and hence would still be original and unseen in other regions and countries - and publications in countries where the articles haven’t appeared can still republish the articles either as reprints or as first serial reproduction in their territory. If you are interested in publishing any of the articles you see here, please contact me discuss. Bear in mind that I could also refresh the material by doing fresh research about the topic or destination, and then weave in any new material I find to craft new and original prose.

Do remember that what you see here is only a fraction of my entire photo library, and I have sizeable collection of travel stock that covers the regions, countries, and territories listed above.
